Providing Safe, Long-Term Housing and Support for Women and Children
Sakeenah Canada is proud to offer a long-term housing program with secure apartments for single families fleeing domestic violence and homelessness. Located in Windsor, this initiative is one of nine across Canada providing culturally sensitive support to Muslim women and children.
With over 1,100 individuals experiencing homelessness in Windsor, including 300 sleeping on the streets nightly, our program meets the urgent need for housing. We provide independent living for families, along with 12 to 18 months of personalized caseworker support to promote independence and skill development. Remote caseworkers assist residents in overcoming challenges, empowering them to achieve sustainable living.
By offering a safe space, we help Muslim women and children rebuild their lives and thrive. Please consider donating or fundraising to help us continue providing these vital services.
Your donation will provide safe housing and essential support for Muslim women and children escaping domestic violence and homelessness, helping them rebuild their lives
While Sakeenah functions at a national level, our head office and The People’s Market operate out of land that is part of the Treaty and Traditional Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, The Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Huron-Wendat and Wyandot Nations.
Sakeenah believes that while a land acknowledgement is the first step, we also understand that land acknowledgements alone are not sufficient to redress the harm caused by centuries of land theft, forced displacement and ongoing acts of settler colonialism. We recognize that this work is ongoing and complex, and we are dedicated to doing our part to create a better future for all.
