Sakeenah provides essential support and services, empowering people to become healthy, independent, and thriving members of our society.
A world where everyone has safety, serenity, and strength.
Sakeenah Canada is a national charitable organization founded in 2018 which provides culturally and religiously sensitive support for Muslim women, children, and families experiencing domestic violence, homelessness, and poverty. Its services include Canada’s first 24/7 nationwide emergency support hotline for Muslims, transitional housing, mental health counselling, remote case management, foster care support, child and youth programming, anti-human trafficking initiatives, and community education and training programs.
Sakeenah Canada also operates two locations of The People’s Market to address food insecurity, and currently manages eight transitional homes across Canada.
While Sakeenah functions at a national level, our head office and The People’s Market operate out of land that is part of the Treaty and Traditional Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, The Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Huron-Wendat and Wyandot Nations.
Sakeenah believes that while a land acknowledgement is the first step, we also understand that land acknowledgements alone are not sufficient to redress the harm caused by centuries of land theft, forced displacement and ongoing acts of settler colonialism. We recognize that this work is ongoing and complex, and we are dedicated to doing our part to create a better future for all.
