We are dedicated to combating human trafficking through prevention and awareness, providing holistic, client-centered support for survivors. Our comprehensive resources help them rebuild their lives while we educate the community.
By understanding the reality and scope of this crisis, we can break the silence, recognize the signs, and protect those most vulnerable. Let’s work together to raise awareness and take action.
At Sakeenah, we offer a comprehensive and holistic approach to supporting survivors of human trafficking, helping them navigate the various barriers to their rehabilitation that intersect in complex ways.
We prioritize a client-centered approach, working closely with residents and clients to develop safety and sustainability plans
tailored to their needs before they transition out of their situations.
We are committed to raising awareness, prevention, and intervention of human trafficking by offering webinars and in-person seminars for individuals such as parents, youth, as well as professionals who work with survivors.
The Canadian Human Trafficking Hotline is a confidential, multilingual helpline operating 24/7 to connect victims and survivors with emergency services, law enforcement, and social services. It also accepts tips from members of the public. The hotline uses a victim-centred approach when connecting human trafficking victims and survivors with local emergency, transition, and/or long-term supports and services across the country.

Human trafficking, also known as modern-day slavery, involves various forms of exploitation such as labor trafficking, sex trafficking, forced marriage, and organ harvesting. It occurs when individuals are induced, recruited, transported, or harbored through force, fraud, or coercion, with the purpose of exploitation. This can include forced labor, sexual acts, domestic servitude, and more. Human trafficking is a serious crime under Canadian law, including the Criminal Code and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Yes. It is important to recognize that human trafficking does NOT discriminate based on age, religion, culture, race, or community. It can happen to anyone because everyone has vulnerabilities that traffickers can exploit.

While Sakeenah functions at a national level, our head office and The People’s Market operate out of land that is part of the Treaty and Traditional Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, The Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Huron-Wendat and Wyandot Nations.
Sakeenah believes that while a land acknowledgement is the first step, we also understand that land acknowledgements alone are not sufficient to redress the harm caused by centuries of land theft, forced displacement and ongoing acts of settler colonialism. We recognize that this work is ongoing and complex, and we are dedicated to doing our part to create a better future for all.
