Mothers are the anchors of our society, the backbone of our communities, and the vessel of our existence. And yet, sometimes we forget that our personal superheroes are also human. These critical figures of our lives are often overlooked, and they are the last people to ask for help. Whether they’re struggling with mental health, facing financial hardship, or even fleeing abuse, mothers carry a heavy load while trying to protect and provide for their families.

We recognize that at Sakeenah Canada, which is why our services are designed to alleviate some of the weight on their shoulders. Our goal is to meet mothers with compassion, cultural understanding, and support on their journey toward healing.

Here’s how we empower them to do that:

Remote Therapy & Casework: Motherhood can feel isolating—especially when you’re facing trauma, anxiety, or overwhelming stress. Sakeenah’s free, faith-based therapy and case management services are available online, offering mothers across Canada personalized mental health and emotional support. In crisis? Our 24/7 Emergency Hotline is also available to connect you to immediate help when you need it most.

Transitional Housing: For mothers escaping domestic violence or at risk of homelessness, Sakeenah offers safe housing. These are more than just shelters, they are healing spaces where women can catch their breath, receive support through our sisterhood, and take steps toward long-term stability.

The People’s Market: No mother should have to choose between feeding her children and paying rent. The People’s Market, our food bank program, provides access to healthy groceries and essentials in a welcoming, dignified environment. We help low-income mothers nourish their families without added stress!

Child & Youth Program: We know a mother’s peace of mind often depends on her children’s well-being. Our Child & Youth Program offers mentorship, tutoring, and emotional support to kids and teens, ensuring they feel safe, valued, and supported — which in turn supports the mother too!

Skills Training & Employment Support: Many mothers who come to us are starting over. We provide opportunities for them to rebuild through job skills training, confidence-building workshops, and one-on-one support to help them re-enter the workforce.

Legal Aid Support: Navigating the legal system can be overwhelming, especially when you’re dealing with custody issues, immigration, or family court. Our team connects mothers with legal resources and helps them understand their rights every step of the way.

Financial Assistance & Budgeting: From emergency funds for rent or food to personalized budgeting support, we help mothers stabilize their finances and work toward long-term independence.

Culturally Grounded Care: At the heart of everything we do is a deep respect for a mother’s dignity and faith. Our services are designed to honour her experiences as a Muslim woman, offering support that is trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and rooted in faith.

Every mother deserves a life of safety, strength, and serenity. At Sakeenah, we’re committed to making that a reality, and your support can help make that possible.

About Sakeenah

Sakeenah Canada, a national charitable organization, was founded in 2018 in response to a gap in culturally and religiously sensitive services available for women and children facing domestic violence and homelessness. Since then, our services have expanded to include mental health therapy and counseling. Sakeenah has also started The People’s Market, a food program that helps combat food insecurity, and has become the first licensed foster care agency for Muslim children in all of North America. We currently operate 8 transitional homes across Canada: Toronto, Brampton, Milton, London, Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg, and Regina, in addition to the first long-term housing program for Muslim women and children in Canada, in Windsor.
