Sakeenah Foster Care
For the past 2.5 years, we have been working on our foster care program with the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, and we are the first licensed Muslim foster care agency in North America. Our goal is to provide Muslim children in the foster care system culturally and religiously sensitive care in a safe and loving environment. We help to connect children in foster care with culturally and religiously sensitive foster families. We also train foster care parents on providing culturally and religiously sensitive care.
It is estimated that hundreds of Muslim children are in foster care across Canada.
The First Muslim Foster Care Agency in North America
Muslim children are taken away from their parents by CAS due to many different reasons such as abuse, neglect, immigration issues, court orders, or trauma. Sakeenah Foster Care is a program that will help recruit and train Muslim foster families, and then connect Muslim foster children to these families. Our wraparound services means that we will continue to provide essential supports such as therapy and training to these children and the foster families throughout their time together. We also seek to educate our community on foster care and healthy inter-family interactions.

Why We Need Your Support
Although we do receive some core funding from the Ministry for each child placed in our care, most of these funds go directly to the foster care families who are directly involved in the care of foster children. In addition to the services mentioned above, Sakeenah Foster Care provides extra therapy and counselling services to the children in care, as well as family reunification support and community education and training. All these extra services cost us as an organization both time and money.
Please donate generously and help us reach our goal!
