FAQs

Also called Modern-day slavery, human trafficking encompasses various forms of exploitation including labor trafficking, sex trafficking, forced marriage, and organ harvesting. While there are various types of human trafficking, all forms can be explained through the Action-Means-Purpose (AMP) Model. It is worth noting that individuals may encounter various combinations of different types of human trafficking. Some individuals may even transition from one type to another.
Human Trafficking occurs when an "Action" like inducing, recruiting, harboring, transporting, providing, or obtaining is carried out through the "Means" of force, fraud, or coercion, with the "Purpose" of exploitation. Exploitation may include forced labor or services including forced begging, sexual acts, domestic servitude, organ harvesting, and forced marriage. Human trafficking is a serious offense under the Criminal Code of Canada and under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
